Welcome to BrightAgIdeas.com, a new Internet site devoted to discussing not only the importance of agriculture, but ideas for its future.
America is a fast growing and changing society – and perhaps nowhere is that more apparent than in the state of Florida, which is poised to soon become the third largest state in the Union. Amid all this growth and change, agriculture strikes many people as something quaint, a relic of the past. The gulf between the farmer, rancher and consumer may appear to be only as wide as a supermarket aisle, but in fact is enormous and spreading.
While popular understanding of agriculture’s role may be diminishing, its importance is greater than ever before. Today, about 1.5 percent of the population feeds the other 98.5 percent. That’s an amazing statistic. And in a world with a population swelling beyond 6.5 billion already, our dependence on the remarkable efficiencies in agriculture can only increase.
So this Website seeks to offer a place to discuss ideas important to the future not only of Agriculture, but of us all. It is a work in progress. We expect to be adding useful features over time. And as more people learn of its existence, we hope this forum will grow and that you will be a part of it.
